‘Big Trouble in Little China’ Remake News: The Rock Wants John Carpenter In

Fans of the cult classic, fret not!

When news swarmed that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson would take on Kurt Russell's famous role in 1986's Big Trouble in Little China, the reactions received were split. In a report from Entertainment Weekly, to those who didn't want to see the remake, the pro wrestler- Furious 7 star has a perfect response (yep, he read your comments online). "I loved reading the reactions from the fans, that they were so polarized - I'm the same way. My response is: know that I come to the project with nothing but love and respect for the original, which is why we want to bring on John Carpenter."

Not only did The Rock mentioned that he wants the original director to get involved, he also said that he is open to asking the original Jack Burton - Kurt Russell - to be part of the remake as well.

Writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, famed for having penned the screenplays of Thor, X-Men: First Class, and the upcoming Power Rangers film, are already tied up for the Big Trouble in Little China remake, IGN reports.

"I loved the original when I was younger and I loved the main character - all the characters," said Johnson. "It felt like if we surrounded ourselves with the right group of people, the right writers who loved the movie too and wanted to honor it, bring on John Carpenter in some capacity ... If we did that, then we have a shot at hopefully making something good."

The popular action-comedy classic tells truck driver Jack Burton's adventures (and misadventures) getting dragged into a centuries-old mystical battle in Chinatown.

The Rock recently starred in disaster flick, San Andreas, which topped the weekend box office and was his biggest solo debut.
