Ariana Grande recently penned an insightful essay that tackled feminism after she was referred to as Big Sean's ex-girlfriend during a recent interview. According to the "One Last Time" singer, she is not happy with the fact that some people may have forgotten that she is her person and not someone else's possession or property.
Following her interview with the British publication The Sun, Grande posted the essay via her Instagram account and wrote, "I do not belong. To anyone. But myself. And neither do you."
The singer also noted how unhappy she is when women all around the world are referred to as a man's past, present or future. According to her, this mindset devalues women because it makes everyone else think that they are defined by their male counterparts.
On her Instagram account, Grande went on to explain why she's been veering away from personal and relationship-related questions during interviews because she knows that there are more important things she can talk about, according to the New York Daily News.
"I have clearly not been having the boy questions in my interviews lately because I have come to the realization that I have so much more to talk about," she wrote.
Meanwhile, Grande and Big Sean, who split in April, did not reveal details about their breakup. However, from the looks of it, the singer's recent split motivated her to become the best version of herself.
"I'm saying this after literally eight years of feeling like I constantly had to have a boy my side. After being on my own for a few months, I am now realizing that that's just not the case. I have never felt more present, grounded and satisfied. I've never laughed harder or had more fun or enjoyed my life more," she said.
