'Game of Thrones' Recap & Review: 10 Saddest Child Deaths in the Series

HBO series and novel, Game of Thrones, has been on a rampage in television and the Internet not only for its fanfare or high-budget schemes, but also because of its treatment of its characters.

As an article puts it, "I just want one happy episode. No killing, no raping, no plotting out killings and rapings, just ... a holiday celebration, say, where no one's fetus gets stabbed out. A concert. A play. Some random serfs having an ordinary afternoon. A sporting event that does not result in anyone's death. Something!"

However, at the series' rate -all the bloodlust, carnage, and seeping political violence underway-a simple birthday party without blood, at the very least, is difficult to happen.

Even the children are no exemption to that rule. So to excite you more on the upcoming episodes, here is a recap of the saddest child deaths in the series, courtesy of Vulture.

Warning: The following texts contain spoilers.

1. Shireen (Season 5)

It was the latest shock Game of Thrones had offered to its audiences-the sacrifice straight out of myth, a father sacrificing his little girl to the gods. Last Sunday's episode utterly proved that no character is safe, even Stanis Baratheon's beloved child Shireen as she screamed and cried in the fire while her father kept a stone-face glare.

2. Mycah (Season 1)

Mycah, a simple butcher's boy, simply played sword with Arya. He had significant role in the story, until he met his death by the blade of the Hound by order of Joffrey. His death was so casual, so senseless, that showed how the lives of the small folk in the series can easily be dispensable.

3. Zalla (Season 4)

Since their birth, the crowd cheered and rooted for Daenerys' dragons. However, one episode in the series showed how powerful and threatening they are to everyone. Zalla was remembered as charred bones by carried by her father to Daenerys. She had no dialogue, but the visual impact was enough.

4. Baby Eddard Stark (Season 3)

Ah, who could forget the Red Wedding? The future King of the North did not even get to see the light of day (or any light for that matter) as he was still in his mother's womb when his death happened. His death in the scene meant the end of the future Stark line.

5. Joffrey (Season 4)

For those who cheered for the Starks, Tyrion Lannister, and even the Martels, Joffrey had this coming. And director Alex Graves let the fans savor every moment of it. Although he was beyond mental, he was still a child nonetheless.
