Marvel Movies Update: "Iron Man 4" Release Date Cancelled?

With Marvel Cinematic Universe now in full throttle with the "Avengers: Infinity War," speculations are rife that "Iron Man 4" would take a backseat or even be cancelled altogether.

According to a report from vcpost.com, there are a number of films from the studio lined up until 2019. Because of the sheer number of movies including "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1" and "Avengers: Infinity War Part 2," the "Iron Man" franchise may reportedly not be given the opportunity to appear again on the big screen. However, neither Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark/Iron Man, and other executives have confirmed this matter.

Another rumor, as reported on christiantoday.com, states that "Iron Man 4" may happen after Phase 3. It is said that financial reasons is the main factor in the shelving of the series, as Downey was reportedly paid $50 million for the first "Iron Man" films and then again in the "Avengers" series. There are also reports that Downey may have sought for a higher talent fee since his character enjoyed tremendous success.

Another reported reason that the "Iron Man" series would be temporarily shelved is to avoid "oversaturating" fans with the character, since he is already included in "Captain America: Civil War" as well as the "Avengers" series. According to a report from masterherald.com, Iron Man has appeared in movies from Marvel nearly every two years, making Stark/Iron Man a staple in nearly every movie produced by the studio.

The report stated, "Although it would be good to strike while the iron is hot, Marvel may be thinking that giving Marvel fans a little too much dose of Iron Man will eventually backfire against the franchise. It certainly does not want it to happen to its most bankable superhero to date."
