'XCOM 2' News: Exciting Modding Potential

XCOM 2 is going all out! The confirmation came from the game's creative director Jake Solomon, IGN reported. The confirmation was backed-up by the game's lead producer Garth DeAngelis as he regretted that the game lacks significant mod support. At this point, the executive team and developers decided to enable modders to run wild with XCOM 2.

With this news, it is going to be music for modders and fans of modding since XCOM 2 will have Steam Workshop integration to make browsing, downloading, and installing convenient. This is a new thing for a commercial game since most of the games today are created and developed closed doors. One of the biggest factors why Firaxis decided to go with this concept is because of the players - they want their players to play the game forever. They want the players to interact with them.

Modding is not a new thing in the industry, the ultra-popular games DOTA and Counterstrike are examples of mod games. Also, the lifespan of these games are mod dependent, meaning as long as there are modders that are willing to modify the game, they will run and can be played. The lifespan is virtually forever.

On the other hand, Rockpapershotgun said that the move by Fixaris was a lot more than what they expect from the game developer.

Rockpapershotgun also confirmed that the first mod that will be free-aiming. The game review website also said that they will have to speculate that someone will bring back time units from the old X-COM to expand the newest game's options.
