Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal has dropped to the lowest of the world rankings after bowing out at the French Open, BBC reported. The 29-year-old tennis superstar has fallen to 10th place after he was dethroned by current world number 1, Novak Djokovic.
On the issue, the former world champion said that he must improve his level of tennis and intensity on court. He also said that if he can accomplish that then he is confident that he can return to his best level.
The current Roland Garros winner, Stan Wawrinka, moved passed the former world number 1 as he grabbed the number 9 spot, while Andy Murray retained his number 3 spot and Roger Federer is secured in the second spot. Djokovic retained the top spot despite his loss in the recent Roland Garros Open, based on ESPN's report.
Nadal's lowest position since the current is at 11th, when he was still a teenager back in 2005.
On related news, BBC also reported that Serena Williams, who has recently bagged her 20th Grand Slam single's title, increased her lead in the world rankings, while former world number 1 Maria Sharapova has dropped two places, to fourth, after her fourth round loss to Lucie Safarova, who played in the finals, moved to a career high 7th overall.
Also, Nadal's French Open winning streak was the fourth longest in the Open Era at any Grand Slam and the longest at Roland Garros. Bjorn Borg had 41 streaks from 1976 to 1981 at Wimbledon. Roger Federer on the other hand had 40 apiece for the US Open from 2005 to 2009 and Wimbledon from 2003 to 2008. Nadal had 39, at the French Open, from 2010 to 2015.
