If you remember the pterodactyls doing household chores, cave men driving around in stone cars, and gigantic dinosaur eggs, then here is a big news for you: the Flintstones-themed amusement park in northern Arizona is now in the market.
The theme park based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon is being sold for $2 million, exclusive of the image licensing of the modern, stone-age family. Warner Bros. is the current owner of the Hanna-Barbera properties. It will be up to the new owner on how to manage Bedrock's licensing agreement.
Flintstones Bedrock City owner Linda Speckels told Seattle Times that she is ready to retire from operating the park and campground in Williams, about 30 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
"I'm 73 years old. I don't have that many more years of adventure time left," said Speckels. "I love the property. But I feel like it's time for somebody else to come in and enjoy it and do something with it."
The Flintstones-based village features Fred's Diner restaurant, gift shop, theater, and RV park. There is also a train that rides through a volcano and a slide down a dinosaur's tails-all 30 acres of land.
The owner's daughter, Holly Hulen, said that business has been doing well last year and the sale of the property is because of her mother's retirement.
"She has survived 42 years, which is really amazing for a small business. But she's going to be 74. It's time for her to retire."
The sellers are also saying that the 30 acres of land also contains redevelopment opportunities for a casino, resort, or an outlet mall.
The cartoon "The Flintstones" is a very popular show created by by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera which served as a parody of "The Honeymooners." After its release, it eventually gained a following and branched out with live-action movies and merchandise.
