The verbal jab of Academy Award-winning director and actor Clint Eastwood of Caitlyn Jenner, who was formerly known as Bruce Jenner, will be removed from the broadcast of Spike TV Guys' Choice Awards which airs on June 18.
American Sniper and Million Dollar Baby director, Clint Eastwood, cited Jenner while introducing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to stage during the award show's taping in California. Comparing Johnson who had turned from being a professional athlete to an actor, Eastwood used examples and inadvertently utters - just like "Jim Brown and Caitlyn Somebody."
The Rock was a former pro wrestler who becomes a Hollywood action star. Actor Jim Brown was a former NFL fullback. Likewise, Bruce Jenner was an Olympic gold medal decathlon athlete before becoming a cop in "CHiPs" and member of the reality TV "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."
While Clintwood's mention of Caitlyn seemed innocent and harmless, that seemed enough to terrify executives to play safe. David Schwarz, Spike TV's Senior Vice President of Communications, confirmed that the incident will be cut when the awards show goes on air.
"We will remove the reference in the version that will air," Schwarz wrote in an email to USA Today.
That seemed the right thing to do on a time when the LGBT community is in a hype following Jenner's public confession.
Cinemablend reports that Eastwood's tone may have made the difference to make Caitlyn's mention a mocking joke considering the wide publicity she's gotten following her recent revelation in Vanity Fair magazine. Caitlyn Jenner is clearly not someone one could miss remembering at this time.
The Guys Choice Awards 2015 airs on June 18. It will be hosted by Dead Presidents and Mr. Holland's Opus star Terrence Howard and Baby Boy and Hustle & Flow star, Taraji P. Henson.
