One Direction fans will be in a dilemma this summer as Zayn Malik is pitted against his former bandmates in One Direction for the first time at the Teen Choice Awards 2015. Whether unintentional or deliberate, the Washington Post describes the Teen Choice Awards as diabolically entertaining.
Zayn Malik, who left theEnglish-Irish pop rock boy band early this year, is set as the rival of One Direction for the Choice Male Hottie award. Thus, what ought to be a reunion of the group during the awards would turn out to be a battle of who is hotter. Malik clashing against his former band is expected but fans never expected it to be too soon.
The dilemma of One Directioners was captured in one simple tweet of a fan: "This is the worst part of being a fan, How .. am I supposed to choose between One Direction & Zayn?!!!" as reported in Mirror.
Some fans have been making their opinions apparent. Still many are finding it too hard to make their final choice.
A report of Entertainment Weekly bluntly articulated the awkward quandary that One Directioners would face which can potentially lead to bad blood. How will One Direction feel if Malik wins? How will Zayn feel if One Direction wins? What if One Directioners' vote is split and award goes to someone else? That is clearly between the devil and the deep blue sea. The other male hottie nominees included 5 Seconds of Summer, Austin Mahone, Justin Bieber, and Ryan Guzman.
Meanwhile, One Direction is also nominated for the Choice Music Male Group while their song "Steal My Girl" is also nominated for Choice Song of a Group.
The Teen Choice Awards will air on Aug. 16 on Fox.
