The Netflix original series "Marvel's Daredevil" welcomes a new star to its cast. "The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal would play the role of Frank Castiglione, better known as "The Punisher," according to a recent report from marvel.com.
Bernthal would play one of the more popular characters in Marvel Universe, the vigilante who promises to rid New York's Hell's Kitchen of criminal elements, regardless of the means and methodology. The Punisher is a master of martial arts and a U.S. war veteran with expertise in an array of weaponry and guerilla tactics.
According to Marvel's Head of Television Jeph Loeb, "Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with the potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."
According to a report from hollywoodreporter.com, the comic book character has been previously portrayed by several actors on the big screen such as Dolph Lundgren in 1989, Thomas Lane in 2004 and Ray Stevenson in 2008. As for Bernthal, he is no stranger to portraying comic book characters on screen, being part of the long-running zombie series, "The Walking Dead" for two full seasons.
In another rumor reported by cnet.com, the characters of Elektra and Bullseye would also make their maiden appearances in the Netflix series.
The show's executive producer is Doug Petrie, Marco Ramirez and Drew Goddard alongside Jeph Loeb. "Marvel's Daredevil" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios and is available via Netflix streaming, according to a report from comingsoon.net.
"Marvel's Daredevil" is topbilled by Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawon and Elden Henson. Also included in the cast are Vincent D'Onofrio as the Kingpin. The second season of the series would hit the small screen by 2016.
