After the premiere of the Universal Pictures' Jurassic World last June 9 at the Dolby Theatre, the movie franchise featuring Chris Pratt and a roster of star-studded cast and crew deliver dinosaur gastronomy to a new generation-without a trace of the old Jurassic stars.
The three biggest names in the previous trilogy, namely Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), Sam Neill (Alan Grant), and Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) are nowhere to be seen in the reboot despite their previous huge roles. And previous director and now current executive producer, Steven Speilberg, reasoned that they are intended to move forward to the future, no longer looking back at the past.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow pointed out that during the pre-production of the upcoming blockbuster movie, the casting of the three lead actors was never brought up.
"I never saw a draft in which they were included, and I think I looked at every iteration at least once.," Trevorrow said, "That was because I think largely, and I'm sure the writers agree, but Steven had a mission to make something new, and he really wanted it to be a Jurassic Park for a new generation. So that was always the mission - however different all of those movies were."
Malcolm, Grant, and Sattler all appeared in the first Jurassic Park in 1993, working as a team in order to survive the carnage on Isla Nublar. Then in the first sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Malcolm was in the spotlight; while in the third instalment, Grant and Sattler re-appeared.
Only BD Wong is the returning cast member from the previous three Jurassic movies. He plays genecist Dr. Henry Wu in the movie.
After 14 years of hiatus, fans are already lining up to witness what's in store in Jurassic World.
