Movers grunting with heavy boxes in their hands, your kids poking around the packed items, dust and dirt whirling all over the now-empty spaces, and the barking dogs as your power jam - say hello to moving day.
The scenario is not always like this for every family. However, one way or another, moving from one house to another can be stressful. So to help you lessen the hassle or burden in your next move, here are five snappy tips for your family, as reported by Zillow.
1. Steer clear from the kids and pets
Moving day can never be easy for families, especially for those with eight-year old tots, adolescents, toy or standard sized dogs, or the combination of the three. And of course, this day is also all about their safety. But for this day, they are also not in the picture.
You can hire a sitter to watch your children, preferably away from the movers and the items to be transferred. Meanwhile, pets can be placed in an isolated place or already boarded for the trip. Just make sure that they are well taken care of.
2. Look ahead
One of the biggest problems that people tend to forget when moving is the parking of the moving truck because there is no space near the house. You can plan ahead by allotting ample space in your garage or any empty lot in or near your house. You can also try to secure a permit for a secure parking slot in the neighborhood.
3. Labelling goes a long way
Try to label your boxes according to their content. To step the preparation up a notch, why not make an 'open me first' box? Inside, there are supplies you will need for your last day at your old home and on your first day in your new one. You can include toiletries, a change of clothes for everyone, pet food, small utensils, soap, shampoo, towels, food packs, or toys for your kids.
4. Keep your eye on two balls
Although you're excited for your new home, don't forget your old one during moving day. Although you've hired movers, you will most likely see things that need to be addressed to.
5. Clean up
Like in creating movies, there is always a post-production. In this case, you can double check the materials to be moved.
