'Tomorrowland' Movie 2015: Disney Film's Biggest Flop?

George Clooney's "Tomorrowland" will probably be Disney Film's biggest flop after two years, according to recent reports. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney revealed that it may lose an estimated $140 million. It would reportedly be the production's biggest financial disaster since Johnny Depp's remake of the film "The Lone Ranger" back in 2013, which lost $190 million.

According to the report of IGN, "Tomorrowland" only made $171 million worldwide so far. It finished only in seventh place at the local box office over the last weekend with $77.3 million ticket sales from North America. One of the factors that made the movie fail, according to reports, is that it was unsuccessful in getting into the Chinese market since it was beaten in its debut by a Japanese animated film.

According to the report done by Daily Mail, "Tomorrowland" only made $13.98 million in China on its opening day, which is far behind the $38.3 million opening day earnings of the Japanese animated film, "Stand by Me Doraemon." In addition, the film that was produced by Damon Lindelof and directed by Brad Bird only made $42.7 million on its first four days. This was reportedly the first sign that the film was not doing so well.

According to Design Trend, the movie "Jupiter Ascending" is currently the biggest box office bomb of the year. Warner Bros. lost around $120 million in total but it is expected that "Tomorrowland" will exceed that number soon.

Despite the disappointing numbers, Disney reportedly still made over a billion dollars with "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and is expecting to make more with its new animated film "Inside Out," which will be released on June 19.
