Season 4 of the highly anticipated political drama series, "House of Cards," is set to be released next year, but fans were left burning with questions with the ending of Season 3.
The end of the third season left Frank, played by Kevin Spacey, "in a flux." His wife Claire, played by Robin Wright, left him in the middle of his fight to win the Democratic nomination. Now fans are wondering how Frank can cope with Claire gone. According to showrunner Beau Willimon in his recent interview with Hollywood Reporter, "That's one of the big questions going into season four."
According to the report by Master Herald, the decision to end the marriage of Frank and Claire was carefully discussed by the show's producers. This will also be one of the main plots of Season 4, which will reportedly see how the breakup plays out. Willimon also hinted that Claire might run for office as she has grown tired of being just a first lady, as seen in Season 3.
With Claire gone, Frank gains an ally with the return of Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly. According to Willimon, fans will find out if Frank will be using Doug to do his dirty work for him. They will also find out if Frank can function well now that his wife is gone, since according to Willimon, "a lot of the strength of the show is based on the strength of that marriage."
Based on Ecumenical News' report, a possible "Claire Underwood for President" story would surely stir up the story and would question Frank's sincerity if he decides to win back his wife. Viewers will reportedly be excited to see this kind of showdown as Claire knows enough to take Frank down.
Season 4 of "House of Cards" is set to premiere in February 2016.
