Chris Hemsworth Movies: Marvel Star Joins "Ghostbusters" Remake

In a ubiquitous tweet, "Ghostbusters 3" director Paul Feig announced that Chris Hemsworth will be joining the cast of the movie. According to a report from comicbook.com, Hemsworth will play the role of a receptionist in the film.

In the original, the receptionist was Janine Melnitz and was played by Annie Potts. Her signature line is, "Ghostbusters, whaddaya want?" as reported in metro.co.uk.

In this remake, the star of Marvel's "Thor" series will be playing that role, albeit quite differently, since he will play opposite four women comprising the new Ghostbusters, namely Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

According to a report from guardian.com, production for the new "Ghostbusters" movie will begin this summer and the movie is expected to hit the big screens by the summer of 2016. There are rumors of an all-male "Ghostbusters" spin-off, reportedly with Channing Tatum topbilling the project.

The announcement of Hemsworth joining the "Ghostbusters" cast apparently sent shockwaves throughout the Twitterverse. According to a report from hollywoodlife.com, fans expressed their happiness regarding the choice for the receptionist role. Fans such as @THEquadskater said, "Chris Hemsworth is going to be Ghostbusters secretary. BEST NEWS. Also can he by my secretary?" Another tweet, this time from @alynn422 said, "Chris Hemsworth will be playing the receptionist in the Ghostbusters reboot. This amuses me. Cryinglaughter.Cryinglaughter.Cryinglaughter."

While originally part of the initial cast for the movie, Hemsworth reportedly refused the role because it was too small. Sony then reworked the script to expand the role for Hemsworth, according to a report from variety.com.

Known mainly for hero-type roles such as "Thor," "Snow White and the Huntsman" and "Avengers," Hemsworth expanded his repertoire by accepting a juicy part in the reboot of the classic comedy "Vacation" that would hit movie theaters by July 2015. He has another movie in the works titled "In the Heart of the Sea."
