Benedict Cumberbatch News & Married Life with Wife: Star Criticized for His CBE Award, Shares His “Weird Obsession” With Being a Father, Plus ‘Sherlock Holmes’ Season 4 Updates

Benedict Cumberbatch is said to receive a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) award from the Queen, but the "Sherlock Holmes" actor has recently received backlash from critics for such award because he reportedly has to prove himself first to deserve it. CBE is a rank below knighthood usually given to people at the end of their careers as recognition for their contributions.

According to Daily Mail, the news was met with some negative reactions from critics who feel that the decision has "turned the honors system into an 'alternative Oscars.'" Critics apparently feel that the award was given to Cumberbatch more for his celebrity status than his achievements.

Nigel Evans, a member of the Public Administration Select Committee, said, "It does seem to be that as long as your 15 minutes of fame stretches into 16 minutes you get a gong. We shouldn't treat the honours system like the Tony Awards or an Oscar. This is something which should be seen as for lifetime achievements, not an award because someone's last movie was good."

Meanwhile, in a recent interview cited by Design&Trend, Cumberbatch shared that he is enjoying a "low-stress nesting period" with his wife Sophie Hunters, who is currently pregnant with their first child. In line with this, Cumberbatch apparently revealed that growing up he always had a "weird obsession with being a father by 32."

Besides anticipating for the arrival of their first child, Cumberbatch is also set to return to the TV series "Sherlock Holmes" for its fourth season. According to Youth Health, filming for Season 4 begins in 2016; however, the sad news is "Sherlock Holmes" air date is set for 2017, which means two years of waiting for fans. The good news, on the other hand, is there'll be a Christmas episode for the series, which will feature Cumberbatch and Morgan Freeman, who plays John Watson, in a Victorian era that's entirely separate from the stories in "Sherlock Holmes." The Christmas episode is set to air in December this year.
