Prince of Sweden Marries Former Reality-TV Star In A Lavish Wedding

Like a fairy tale ending - a commoner marries a Prince in a lavish royal family Swedish wedding. Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist tied the knot in Stockholm's Royal Palace on Saturday, today.com reports.

The couple reportedly met at a restaurant in 2010 and news about the brewing romance was revealed soon after. But much of the publicity was coming from the 30-year-old former reality-TV star and glamour model.

British media were having a feast of Ms. Hellqvist's past, which included a stint on the Swedish reality TV show Paradise Hotel - where single men and women compete for the last-man-standing position in a luxury resort - and posing topless for a men's magazine in 2004 wearing a boa constrictor, BBC reports.

But the former yoga instructor took to television on the media frenzy saying that she had long since moved on.

"I don't regret anything. All these experiences have made me the person I am," Ms Hellqvist said. "I wouldn't have made those choices today," she added.

The palace has been highlighting her charity work contrary to rumors that her past caused disquiet among the royal family. She co-founded Project Playground charity in 2010 which supports disadvantaged children in Africa and did volunteer work in several African countries.

Despite polls showing the royal family's popularity waning, still thousands of well-wishers lined the streets to witness the royal wedding unfold, in the same report by BBC.

The 36-year-old Prince who is third in line to the throne reportedly had difficulty putting the ring on during their vows. And finally, everyone cheered as, a 30-year-old commoner, became a princess.

A horse-drawn carriage was waiting from them for the parade through the streets of Stockholm's old town, waving to the rejoicing crowd, before they head back to the palace for a 21-gun salute and wedding banquet.

The royal couple was serenaded to the song of Coldplay's Fix You and the Swedish version of Rihanna's Umbrella.
