After a record-breaking rampage in box office with $204.6 million during its opening weekend, Jurassic World proves to be an unstoppable force as the film with the second best opening weekend of all time in the domestic level.
Indeed, dinosaurs, teamed up with Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow on the director's chair, and Chris Pratt in the spotlight, can still make a movie hit even after more than 20 years of hibernation. But more than a movie, Jurassic World is still a movie franchise.
Spoiler alert: Watch out because the next parts contain scenes from the movie.
So what's next for the dinosaurs? Well, since this is still a franchise, there are a couple of scenes in the movie that have already paved the way for one or two instalments.
The mad scientist route
After the monstrous disaster with the creation of the Indomnius rex, the carnage the new creature brought, and the destruction of the facilities in the park, what's next for Isla Nublar? The answer may lie in the scene when BD Wong's Dr. Henry Wu escaped the research facility and hopped on to a helicopter, carrying a case of dinosaur embryos.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, Trevorrow revealed a couple of details and ideas for the movie.
"I feel like that was something that we did in terms of plot that opens up a potential sequel, but I think there's things that we did in terms of theme that might be more viable. There's actually a line we cut from the movie, and sometimes I wonder if I should have... but in that scene with BD Wong and Irrfan Kahn, he used to say, 'How long do you think you can control it? We won't always be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.'"
Bringing on more entertainment
Trevorrow also showed another window where the potential sequel can be seen: the proliferation and integration of technology in our world. This was also how the director coined the new name, Jurassic World.
"When we look at various technologies, they go open source at some point, and they proliferate - and I think of a world... a Jurassic World," Trevorrow said. "I changed the title for a reason. It's not just the name of a theme park, where we coexist with these animals in the way that we do now with other animals in the planet. Don't go into the jungle! There's raptors in there! And so there are all kinds of interests who have the ability to make these animals for various needs and purposes. There is potential there."
