YouTube Gaming in the Works? Video-sharing Site Set to Launch Gaming Website and App

The big gaming world is about to get bigger with one of the major players online. According to a recent report from dnaindia.com, YouTube has announced just before this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) that it will launch an app specifically tailored for gamers.

This announcement was made by YouTube product manager Alan Joyce, who stated that the site and app, named as YouTube Gaming, will be intended for users to live stream and play gaming videos. It will also reportedly serve as a melting pot for Internet gaming personalities. It is estimated that the site would have 25,000 games featured for its users.

YouTube's owners Google is positioning YouTube Gaming as a separate platform from the video streaming site. In a report from theverge.com, Joyce said, "You can search with confidence, knowing that typing 'call' will show you 'Call of Duty' and not 'Call Me Maybe'"

The reason for the creation of YouTube Gaming is the failed bid by Google for the streaming service Twitch, which was eventually bought by Amazon. Amazon outbid Google for the service, sealing a $970 million offer that Google was unable to match, according to a report from bbc.com.

Joyce further added, "On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let's plays, walkthroughs and speedruns to cooking and music videos. It's our turn to return the favor with something built just for gamers."

The goal is to have gamers be lured from Twitch, which is the current market leader for live online broadcasting. Twitch reported that about 12 billion hours of live gaming are streamed every month onsite.

According to a report from nydailynews.com, aside from the gaming pages, YouTube Gaming will run at a high stream rate of 60fps, DVR, which converts all kinds of streaming formats into YouTube videos on the partner site online.
