Believe It Or Not: This Underwear for Men is Radiation-Proof

An underwear for men that is touted to be radiation-proof has been manufactured to protect men's genitalia from the harmful effects of radiation, which is a high-frequency electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones, Digital Trends reports.

The radiation-proof boxer called the "Kronjuwelen," which means "Crown Jewels," was invented by scientists Daniel Herter, Berno Delius, Peer-Boy Matthiesen, and Nick Piepenburg at the University of Exeter to counter the effects of radiation after they have learned that electromagnetic waves have severe effects to male fertility. Sperm reportedly becomes less active when exposed to a high amount of radiation.

The Kronjuwelen underwear was made of three different materials namely: 20 percent silver, 60 percent polyester and polyamide. Delius' group claims that using these combined materials in a soft fabric can block bad radio waves similar to a bulletproof vest, after it passed a series of tests at the University of German Armed Forces. "The fabric in our boxer shorts stops 98 percent of mobile phone radiation," says Delius, as quoted in the Digital Trends report.

The said underwear, according to Digital Trends, was a project funded through a Kickstarter campaign. It was apparently a response to various researches of World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer which confirmed that radiation posed great health risks to both men and women's genitals.

Meanwhile, Tomonews reports that Kronjuwelen underwear has antimicrobial properties, which prohibit the build-up of bad odor. It also said that the silver underwear creates a "Faraday Cage" effect, which also shields the gentials from the harmful effects of radiation. Priced at 30-50 Euros, this men's garment is deemed to be useful for men. The group also hinted the possibility of them coming up with the same garment for women to protect a developing fetus.
