The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle may be adapted for Sherlock Holmes Christmas Special

After Sherlock Executive Producer Steven Moffat confirmed of an upcoming Christmas Special for the Sherlock series by end of 2015, rumours have spread that it will adopt the story of the Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle which was also written by Sherlock creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Not only because Doyle's old story feature a light-hearted plot that is free of violence and ends happily ever after fits well for a Christmas special, but the tweets from Mark Gatiss, co-creator and co-producer of Sherlock made hints that the new special will likely follow such story. He tweeted a quote from Doyle's "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle". "It was a bitter night, so we drew on our ulsters and wrapped cravats about our throats..." as reported in idigitaltimes.

With that tip-off, people might as well get a quick glimpse of Doyle's story which will most likely be the plot for the Sherlock Christmas special.

A valuable jewel, the "Blue Carbuncle", was stolen from the Countess of Morcar. An ex-con plumber was soon arrested as thief. The carbuncle was later found in a goose's crop, which was handed by the commissionaire to Holmes along with a hat. Holmes believed that the owner of the goose has no idea about the carbuncle. Holmes with Watson followed where the owner bought the goose which led him to a poultry in Brixton. Meanwhile, another guy named James Ryder was intriguingly also looking for the goose. Through Ryder's admission, Holmes found out that he contrived with the Countess' maid to steal the jewel and set up the plumber. Because it's Christmas, Holmes let Ryder get away and helps the innocent plumber get acquitted. All is well that ends well. After all it's the yuletide season and it's a time for forgiving and giving.

In a related note from Youthhealthmag, Stephen Moffat also said that Sherlock Season 4 featuring the return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman is going to be about consequences. "Chickens come to roost. It's dark in some ways-obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that-but there's a sense of... things... coming back to bite you."

Filming is scheduled on the spring of 2016 thus the instalment of the Sherlock Holmes series will most likely be slated on 2017.
