Top Al Qaeda commander Nasir al-Wuhayshi was reported killed in Yemen Friday, CNN reported. The terrorist was suspected to be killed by drone strikes in Yemen's Hadramount region as reported by the Yemeni national security officials. The Al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula, according to Reuters, also confirmed via social media Twitter the death of its commander and hailed him as a martyr and has immediately appointed Abu Hureira al-Sanaani as al-Wuhayshi's replacement.
Al-Wuhasyshi is considered as Al Qaeda's number 2 in command according to the video that went online last April 2014. He is also known as Al Qaeda's crowned prince. On that video, al-Wuhasyshi is seen addressing the crowd and with conviction saying that they must eliminate the cross, and the bearer of that cross is America. The video also showed a vast number of Al Qaeda, which is probably one of the largest and most dangerous gatherings of the terrorist group.
The Yemen native sat as second in command of the world's largest terrorist group on 2009. He also escaped Yemen prison in 2006 and worked as a personal secretary for Al Qaeda's founder, Osama bin Laden.
The death of Al-Wuhayshi was considered as a big blow to Al Qaeda's ledership ring, as said by Maine Senator, Angus King. The senator also said that it will hurt Al Qaeda big but warned that United States should be prepared for a possible retaliation.
Another report went viral when US planes went on to have an air strike in Libya that killed a key terror figure in the North African region. The target was Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a seasoned Islamist fighter and an Al Qaeda affiliate according to the United States government. The Libyan government also confirmed that Belmokhtar was killed in that strike, but the US government has yet to confirm the news.
