TNT's new supernatural TV series, "Proof," debuts tonight, and many are wondering what the show can offer viewers. Based on the trailers in Design & Trend's report, the show may reportedly be a combination of other supernatural dramas such as "Supernatural," "X-Files" and even "Medium."
Brian Lowry of Variety has provided an early review of the "Proof" premiere and writes that the show "explores the mother of all mysteries," which is life after death. According to him, the show has an "interesting" and "provocative" premise but is filled with clichés and explores the central theme in "uninspired and banal of ways."
According to the same report, the premiere episode shows Dr. Carolyn Tyler (Jennifer Beals) storming in an operating room, demanding everyone to "get it right the first time, no questions asked." She then meets Ivan Turing (Matthew Modine), a billionaire diagnosed with terminal cancer, who proposes to her to research about the afterlife. It is worth noting that the character has lost her son in a car crash and has undergone a near-death experience herself. Though reluctant at first, Tyler begins to assemble her team for investigations, which is the beginning of the show's series of cases with afterlife connections.
According to The Guardian, which also gives the show a not-so-positive review due to its "pointless" theme, Beals is exceptional in the series despite her "unfriendly" character" who is a jerk to everyone," which is supposedly similar to House's character from the TV series "House." Besides Beal, the report claims that the good thing about the series is its attempt to stay on the side of science, which is rightly so, given the show's title "Proof."
Though early reviews may not be impressive, "Proof" is just beginning its course on the afterlife, so viewers may still expect different takes on the theme in the TNT show's upcoming episodes. The TV series airs on TNT on Tuesdays, 10 p.m.
