Pop hitmaker Demi Lovato, along with Mandy Patinkin and Rainn Wilson, will surely excite kids and kids at heart with Sony's fully computer-animated reboot of Smurf entitled 'Get Smurfy.'
"I'm Demi Lovato and I'm so excited to announce that I will be voicing Smurfette in the new fully-animated Smurfs movie," the former Disney star announced in a promotional video, according to International Business Times.
Lovato will voice Smurfette, and Patinkin will play Papa Smurf. The evil wizard Galgamel will be voiced by Wilson. The story will circle around Smurfette and her brothers searching for a legendary Smurfy Village, reports Entertainment Weekly. The movie also promises to answer questions that fans have been boggled about - like why there are 99 boys and only one girl in the bunch. This Smurf movie will also get a complete animated treatment, like the two previous Smurf films were there's a combination of live action and computer animation, reports International Business Times.
"We have gathered a group of filmmakers and artists who have grown up with these loveable characters, and 'Get Smurfy' will be imbued with the same spirit of adventure that first made all of us lifelong fans of these little blue guys...and girl," says Kristine Belson, president of Sony Pictures Animation, as reported on Variety.
"The continued popularity of the Smurfs is unmistakable," director Kelly Asbury said in a statement on Vulture. "This new outing will return them to the fully-animated world that launched them."
Sony Pictures Animations released a sneak peek of the Get Smurfy world, which was based on creator Peyo Culliford's original style of the Smurfs, reports Variety.
"We felt it was important to take a very different approach with this origin story. It returns to the roots of Peyo's creation in this CG-animated adventure," explains producer Jordan Kerner. "I hope it will delight not only fans but also all audiences worldwide. We couldn't be more excited with the talented new cast we're starting to assemble for our 'Smurfy' reboot."
'Get Smurfy' will get its Smurf on in theatres March 13, 2017.
