When Sony finally decided to produce a reboot of "Ghostbusters," Emma Stone was one of the choices to fill the all-female cast, but she turned down the offer of director Paul Feig, according to Collider. The actress was reportedly not ready to commit to a franchise.
"The script was really funny. It just didn't feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment-it's a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water," she mentioned in The Wall Street Journal.
Though Stone did not accept the offer, she has an upcoming Woody Allen film, "Irrational Man," which will hit theaters on July 17, as mentioned by Daily Mail. The Wall Street Journal also added that Stone will be in Cannes next week for the premiere of the said movie, then to London to spend time with her mom. After that, the actress will reportedly go back to L.A. to start on "La La Land," a contemporary musical about an aspiring actress and a jazz pianist, with Ryan Gosling and director Damien Chazelle.
Though Stone turned down the "Ghostbusters" role, Feig now has Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as part of the all-female cast. Chris Hemsworth has also been reported to join the movie as a receptionist.
According to Boston Herald, Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book about ghosts being real. For several years, Wiig becomes a teacher at Columbia University. When her book resurfaces, she is laughed out of the academe. Wiig then reunites with McCarthy and the other female lead stars to save the world when ghosts invade Manhattan.
"Ghostbusters" release date is set for July 22, 2016.
