Nest 'Cam' Features: The New Security Camera Unveiled

Google-owned home automator Nest's new security camera has been finally unveiled after a leaked photo of the device surfaced in various websites. Yahoo reports that Nest publicly announced the new security camera device earlier this week in a San Francisco event. The announcement confirms that the leaked photo was indeed Nest's "Cam" device.

"Cam," as it is called, is the company's new camera security device that can be used for homes and business establishments. This is a new development following Nest's acquisition of Dropcam for about $555 million a year ago. The Yahoo report says that "Cam" was a result of the "fruitful" acquisition and added that the device looks similar to the Dropcam camera.

According to The Verge, Nest "Cam" shares the same features with that of Dropcam Pro as it can record a video with 1080p standard resolution at 30 frames per second. The camera also has a 130-degree field of vision, which reportedly makes it the best home security camera available in market today. The Nest "Cam," as The Verge described, can be installed via a wall mount and uses a more updated Bluetooth technology, which is the Bluetooth LE 4.0.

Streaming live video footage is also possible using the Nest "Cam" as it can run using the iOS 8 and Android 4.0 mobile operating systems. Along with the device is a cloud service software for the camera called the Nest Aware. Nest says that it is a software that allows users to store video footages, which can be viewed anytime.

The Nest Aware is pegged at $10 for a monthly service and can store a maximum of 30 days of video recordings. Another feature of the Nest "Cam" is the Activity Zones, which allows users to tweak the camera settings by highlighting parts of it to alert them when a motion is detected. The Nest "Cam" can reportedly be integrated with other Nest products.
