Matt Damon will play another stranded astronaut in the new sci-fi movie, "The Martian." "The Martian" is directed by Ridley Scott and is based on Andy Weir's 2011 novel of the same title. Damon also had a role in the 2014 movie "Interstellar," but he explains that his role in this movie is totally different.
The film tracks the survival of an astronaut who is left for dead on Mars. However, he survives and has to find a way to survive with his extremely limited resources in a planet which is seemingly designed to kill him.
According to Yahoo News, Damon went to director Scott and told him that he really liked the script. It was reported that the actor was a bit hesitant about the role since he already made the movie "Interstellar." However, Scott reportedly said, "The movies are totally f***ing different, this is going to be f***ing fun. Let's do this!" In the end, Damon said he just can't say no to the director.
In Indie Wire's post, Damon explains further how "The Martian" is totally different from any movie about Mars. He said, "One of the biggest differences is it's primarily me on my own for a lot of it." He added that the biggest challenge in this movie is that the world was trying to get his character back safely on Earth. He considers this movie as different to any Mars movie that has ever been done.
According to Design Trend, NASA helped make the movie. The film had the full support of NASA who approved the script and also allowed the producers to use their name. The consultants of the film were also real astronauts to help improve the script and for the accuracy of the spacesuits and the depiction of the travel to Mars.
The new sci-fi action film is set to hit theaters on October 2.
