As early as Season 1, 'Game of Thrones' pilots lead to gruesome deaths. But in this Season 5 finale, it's shocking to learn how and why the characters have come to an end on the show. (Note the following content gives you some spoilers of the Season 5 finale.)
According to a report from comicbook.com, "Mother's Mercy, the Season 5 Finale of the 'Game of Thrones' was considered one of the most tragic and dreadful episodes of the series. Among all the other deaths happened in the season, one death stood above all of them. Whose death was it? The most questionable was Jon Snow's (Kit Harrington) death. Jon, the Lord-Commander was stabbed by his brothers in the Night's Watch and he's lying in the snow, bleeding and mortally wounded to death. Is it true? Yes, it was Kit Harrington's confirmation that Jon Snow would be probably dead in the season because he won't be returning for Season 6 as show runner Dan Weiss quoted, "Dead is dead.""
What might happen to the next seasons if Snow was dead? Huffingtonpost.com says "no one else could possibly be fit to take the Iron Throne. Jon is the center of the 'Game of Thrones' and his character gives moral balance and reminder of the real stakes in this epic."
A report from independent.co.uk says that another wicked death is Shireen's. Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) burned her daughter in the hope of gaining more power. He did it after Red Priestess Melisandre (Carice von Houten) advised him to sacrifice his daughter Shireen (Kelly Ingram) to the Lord of Light.
The good thing is that Melisandre made her way back The Wall after abandoning Stannis. She was aware that R'hllor's power can be used to resurrect the dead, unclear if she possesses that power herself. We could possibly ask, can she resurrect Snow using that power, so Snow can take the Iron Throw?
The show challenges our pre-conceptions about the characters. The complexity of the characters and the uncertainty of their fates make the show worth watching.
