Apple Watch 2 in the Works? Device to Feature FaceTime Camera, Own Wi-Fi & More

A recent report hinted that Apple is planning to release a second generation of Apple Watch, which will be called "Apple Watch 2." According to 9to5Mac, the Apple Watch 2 will have various features such as Facetime camera, improved Wifi capability and additional system upgrades. The tech giant is reportedly gearing up for its release by 2016.

The report revealed that one of the features that might be incorporated in the Apple Watch 2 is a Facetime video camera, which will allow users to receive and make a call using FaceTime. Dubbed as Apple Watch Face Time, this technology is poised to improve the device's functionality.

When it comes to battery, the Apple Watch 2 will reportedly use the same battery model of the recently released Apple Watch. However, Apple claims that the battery of Apple Watch 2 will be tweaked by Apple engineers, particularly the hardware, as a response to the company's research on customer satisfaction regarding the device's battery life.

Moreover, Apple Watch 2 will reportedly be a "tether-less" device that will make it independent from iPhones. At present, Apple Watch only offers limited functionalities such as mobile tracking, payment, music playback and others.

In addition, Macrumors reports that Apple Watch 2 will have a new chip that offers an improved Wireless Fidelity functionality. The reported Wi-Fi chip will be a wireless chipset device and can hasten some basic tasks. It uses a router triangulation technology, contrary to the usual technology used for Global Positioning System (GPS).

The report also revealed that Apple is considering to release other variations of the smartwatch. Currently, Apple Watch has two models: the standard Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Sports Edition. The Apple Watch 2 will reportedly be created using platinum, palladium, tungsten and titanium. The said smartwatch will be priced between $1,000 and $10,000, respectively.
