Are the boxing fans going to see the Golden Boy again inside the ring? This question has been out in the open since the time the undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather had called out the future hall of fame inductee boxer to fight him on his potential last fight this coming September. However, according to a response that ESPN obtained from the former champion, he is already happy and content and he is not coming back, ever. The Puerto Rican superstar also said that he will focus to grow his baby, The Golden Boy Promotions.
The 48-year-old pugilist has seen action in 2008 against Mayweather's latest victim Manny Pacquiao. After a couple of months, he finally hung his gloves and called it a day for boxing.
However, one of the reasons why Mayweather has suddenly called out the former middleweight king is because of his recent radio interview in which he cited a perfect scenario for him to again step inside the squared circle. He said in that interview that there was not a single day that passes by that he did not think about returning to action. He also added that if he would return, he wants to only fight the best, and as everyone knows, a 48-0 record is all about greatness.
Kickerdaily also published an article about the potential fight and Dela Hoya's very quick dismissal of the story. Mayweather and Dela Hoya faced each other in 2007, but unfortunately, the pretty faced boxer bowed to the undefeated boxer via a split decision.
Dela Hoya also ditched Mayweather that he could have called him out days after their fight in 2007 but waited for 8 years, and a couple of pounds for Dela Hoya, before calling him out again. The boxer turned promoter also said that their fight in 2007 has a rematch clause that had to take place within a year. But Mayweather decided to retire instead of giving Dela Hoya the rematch.
As of this writing, the outspoken undefeated boxer has yet to reply on Dela Hoya's statements.
