Roberta Flack has just listed her Dakota apartment for a whopping price of $9.5 million. The Grammy Award-winning artist has lived in the two-bedroom apartment for about four decades already. According to New York Curbed, the listing lacks interior photos but it does have beautiful decoration descriptions.
Aside from having two bedrooms, the place also has two bathrooms and four wood-burning fireplaces. The interior features arched windows and a lot of closets. The original moldings of the place make it a rare historic residence in the so-called "legendary" building.
According to Flack's interview with the New York Times in 2010, the building is filled with famous people. According to her, artists like her need to keep to themselves most of the time. The singer is one of the many celebrities who lived in the building, along with John Lennon and wife Yoko Ono, Lauren Bacall and Leonard Bernstein. Flack reportedly lived across the hall from Lennon and Ono.
Lauren Bacall's apartment in the building is also on the market at $23.5 million. The late celebrity's mysterious home is filled with her artsy and eclectic possessions. Bacall's apartment measures 4,000 square feet and is filled with historic details like the original hardwood floors and beautiful carvings on the wooden doorways.
Flack's residence at the famous building was filled with a bit of drama. Back in 2011, hedge funder Alphonse Fletcher Jr. sued the co-op board for racism. The charges accused the members for forbidding the "black singer" Flack from installing a new bathtub in her apartment and forcing her to take her dog up in her place using the service elevator, which other tenants don't need to do. Other tenants of the building disputed these claims.
There are no reports as to how much the singer paid for the apartment since the earliest records for the unit were from 2003.
