James Ellroy is selling his Bronson Canyon, Hollywood home for $1.395 million. The Spanish-style bungalow is also filled with his works and several framed posters with his name.
According to Los Angeles Curbed, a previous feature of the home showcased its massive mahogany bookshelf, which frames the entrance of the living room. Every single book in the bookshelf is all written by the novelist.
According to Variety, Ellroy originally paid $1.2 million for the less than 2,000-square-foot place three years ago. The 1926 home has three bedrooms and two vintage tiled bathrooms, which have retained their original architecture details including the hardwood floor and arched doorways and windows.
Aside from the large bookshelf, the living room also features a fireplace and a high-coved ceiling. The design of the area is minimalist, just like Ellroy's "meticulously stripped-down prose." The living area also has doors which open to a walled garden. The dining area is lit by antique iron fixtures, and the kitchen has a built-in breakfast table and slab marble countertops.
In the master's bedroom, there is a second corner fireplace and French doors which lead to a walled courtyard. The master suite also features a private terrace and a bathroom that is completely covered with noir jet black tiles. At the steep slope behind the house, there is an office space which can be used as a guest studio. It has its own entrance, patio and bathroom.
Ellroy is known for his articulate and unapologetic dark and complex stories that give his audience a glimpse at the sordid underbelly of the American life. Some of his novels were adapted to critically acclaimed films such as "L.A. Confidential" and "The Black Dahlia."
