After the previously concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo trade fair for the video game industry, gaming console makers like Sony made last minute announcements to complement the upcoming games that video game publishers are set to release. In line with this, Sony unwraps the "ultimate gamer edition," with its new two PS4 models.
According to Kotaku, the new PlayStation 4 models are CUH-1215A and CUH-1215B.
These new models are more of a modification or enhancement rather than an absolutely new "PS4 Slim," model.
The new PS4 models will be 10 percent lighter and will be more power efficient. It weighs 2.5 kg compared to the current model's 2.8kg. The console draws eight percent less energy and features a matte hard shell cover.
The difference between the two models will be their hard drive capacity. CUH-1215A model has a 500GB HDD capacity, while the CUH-1215B model has a 1 Terabyte capacity, that's twice the hard disk drive space the current model holds.
According to Forbes, the evolution of consoles towards larger hard drives is a logical tendency of most gaming consoles because of increasing digital focus. Most new games often require installs including upgrades and bug fixes, some of them are substantially large. Moreover, most gamers buy their games online.
With that in mind, a 500 GB hard drive may just contain a decent-sized game library especially for gamers who likes to store and revisit old games once in a while.
Besides, Sony owns an online store where people buy digital games hence it's but logical for it to make a console that will complement its service.
The New PS4 Models will be initially available in select European countries and other PAL territories next month. It is expected to be released in North America by the holiday season. Meanwhile, Sony advises the public to check local retailers for pricing information.
