Not Monica of Friends or that Monica who once took the White House by storm but Monica, the renowned R&B singer, who is the youngest recording artist to have two consecutive chart-topping hits on the Billboard Top R&B Singles chart, is the idol of Truffle Butter Anaconda, Nicki Minaj.
As reported by MTV, Nicki is quite literally obsessed with Monica.
In an Instragram post, Nicki explains to Meek Mill, "Did you know Monica was my idol? Did you know how obsessed I was with her?'" Nothing's changed. Still a dope ass singer, entertainer and person. I used to try to sing exactly like her, doing them low notes and riffs."
In response to Nicki's cajoling compliment, Monica responded on her own IG page.
"I've always appreciated the love shown to me and the respect given personally and professionally from Nicki Minaj," Miss Thang said. She also relayed her continuing support to Nicki as she journeys to her purpose in life, music, and love.
In another report from MTV, Monica or Monica Denise Brown started as a travelling gospel choir at the age of ten before getting signed by Atlanta as a recording artist at age 13 when she released her debut album Miss Thang in 1995. Her first two singles "Don't Take It Personal" and "Before You Walk out of My Life" are Billboard chart-topping hits. She then recorded a Grammy Award-winning number-one hit duet with Brandy, "The Boy Is Mine," which was included in her second album of the same title in July 1998.
Being at the music industry for around 15 years, Monica has sold over 25 million albums worldwide and has been listed among Billboard's top 50 R&B and Hip Hop Artists of the past 25 years.
Monica has already teamed up with some rappers in the past like LL Cool J on Mr. Smith.
These posts between Nicki and Monica open hopes among fans for a possible collaboration from the two stars. Monica's saintly voice with Minaj's seducing crack and thump surely promises a new musical twist we all can look forward to.
