Andy Warhol's former Hampton's estate was recently listed by its current owner for an astounding $85 million. Warhol and his business partner/friend Paul Morrissey purchased the estate back in 1972 for a modest amount of $225,000.
The Montauk compound is currently owned by J. Crew CEO, Mickey Drexler. Drexler purchased the place for $27 million in 2007. According to Chron, the place was also formerly used as a fishing camp by its former owners. The 30 acres of land covers a beachside main house and also six cottages, which total to about 14,968 square feet. The place has a total of nine bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, which were restored by famous architect Thierry Despont, who was also the architect for the other structures of the place.
The land also includes a historical equestrian center composed of two barns with 29 stalls, which was built by Indy 500 and Miami Beach developer Carl Fisher during the 1920s. Over time, it was reported that many other additions and extensions were made to the property by previous owners after Warhol.
Between the times Warhol took the ownership of the property from 1972 until his death in 1987, the place was a venue for a stream of celebrity guests and renters, according to Top Ten Real Estate Deals. Some of its famous guests were John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Jackie Kennedy, Cheryl Tiegs, Liza Minnelli, Liz Taylor and Lee Radziwill. These parties placed Montauk in the international map during the 1970s to 1980s.
