'My Heart Will Go On' Co-writer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash

It's a sad time for the movie and music industry as Oscar-winning composer James Horner dies in a tragic plane crash, HollywoodLife reports.

The Santa Barbara County Fire responded to a call of a plane crash which started a one-acre bushfire at Los Padres National Forest at around 9:30 in the morning of June 22. The pilot of the plane died on the spot and was later identified to be the 61-year-old 'My Heart Will Go On' co-writer. Sylvia Patrycja, his assistant, confirmed the sad news.

"We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent," Sylvia wrote on Facebook. "He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road."

The composer was most known for his work in James Cameron's Titanic, Avatar, Braveheart, A Beautiful Mind, and Aliens. He received two Oscars: one for Best Original Dramatic Score and one for Best Original Song for Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On".

His agent released an official statement in this People.com report:

"It is with the deepest regret and sorrow that we mourn the tragic passing of our dear colleague, long-time client and great friend, composer James Horner."

"Our thoughts and prayers are with James' family at this difficult time, and also with the millions of people around the world who loved his music. A shining light has been extinguished, which can never be replaced."

"For more than three decades, his unique creative genius made an indelible imprint on each of our lives and on those of the entire Hollywood community," the statement continued. "We express our love and sincere condolences to James' wife Sara and his two daughters, Emily and Becky. And we take comfort in the belief that in his last moments, James was doing something from which he derived such great joy. His spirit will continue to soar, and he will be with us always."

More of Horner's most notable scoring works include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in 1982, Field of Dreams, Cocoon, Willow, The Amazing Spider-Man the remake of The Karate Kid and the Disney-Michael Jackson collaboration Captain EO.
