The Lyons are coming back to the small screen with "Empire" Season 2, and the show's executives have revealed the general theme of the story. The Fox drama series' second season is expected to be aired in the latter part of the year.
In the finale of "Empire" Season 1, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard, was brought to jail after being charged with murder. The running of his empire was left to his son, Jamal, who is played by Jussie Smollett. In Season 2, viewers will learn if Jamal can handle the family's music empire. However, according to Danny Strong, one of the show's executive producers, fans should not expect over-the-top drama and complications in the second season. He added that the show will continue to be truthful to the story.
According to Ecumenical News, another executive producer, Wendy Calhoun, revealed that the show will be using a lot of flashbacks to help viewers understand the family better. Furthermore, it was added that the flashbacks will also explain how Lucious became who he is and answer questions about what happened to Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) in the 17 years she was away from her family.
The fans are also reportedly excited about the new cast members of the show and some celebrity cameos. It was reported by Access Hollywood that former "CSI: Miami" star Adam Rodrigez will join the cast in Season 2. He will be playing the character Laz Delgado, who is Cookie's love interest in the show.
Other confirmed guest stars include Chris Rock and Alicia Keys, but it was reported that there will be more celebrity guests for Season 2. Some of the previous guest stars like Gabourey Sidibe and Ta'Rhonda Jones are now promoted to cast regulars, as announced earlier this year.
"Empire" Season 2 will air on Fox on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. beginning September 23.
