Fans of the popular HBO TV series "Game of Thrones" still can't seem to come to grips with the fact(?) or possibility of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) being dead. With Season 5 finale's cliffhanger ending, a lot have speculated about Jon Snow's real fate in the show, with numerous theories saying that he'll be resurrected in Season 6 by the red priestess Melisandre, played by Carice Van Houten. In a recent interview, the actress finally talked about Jon Snow and hinted on her "big" role next season.
According to New Daily, Van Houten revealed in her interview with the publication that she has a "major task to perform" in Season 6 of "Game of Thrones." She talked about her possible involvement in the fate of Jon Snow and said, "You've seen her clock Jon Snow, which is a great ending because you think, 'Uh oh, what's going to happen there?' You feel that she is concentrating more and more towards Jon Snow ... there are slight hints that something's going to happen."
When asked if that "something" has anything to do with her resurrecting Jon Snow, Van Houten did not give specific details but teased events in the next season by saying, "I was doing ADR (automated dialogue replacement) the other day and then the producer was there and he was saying something that I've heard before, which is quite spectacular, for next year, which I really can't say anything about."
With this, Jon Snow fans can only hope that Van Houten was actually referring to a popular theory about the character when she said that that something "spectacular for next year" is something she's already "heard before." Meanwhile, Vanity Fair has listed more reasons for fans to be hopeful that Jon Snow will still come back in the show.
One clue is said to be the "Beautiful Death" artwork commissioned by HBO for "Game of Thrones," which includes posters of the "most iconic deaths" in the show. Ironically and oddly enough though, the poster for Season 5 finale features Stannis' death instead of Jon Snow's, which is reportedly far more important in the TV series. According to the report, this could possibly mean that Jon Snow is not really dead yet because if he was, it should have been him that was included in the artwork.
Moreover, and perhaps the strongest clue so far on the possibility of Jon Snow death not being real, is the recent casting call for Season 6 of "Game of Thrones." According to the same report, a specific casting call apparently refers to a character named Arthur Dayne, best friend of Rhaegar Targaryen [Daenery's (Emilia Clarke) dead brother], which could possibly mean that a flashback on the Tower of Joy plot from the books may be included in the show next season.
The Tower of Joy is supposedly where Lyanna Stark, the dead sister of Ned Stark (Sean Bean) was abducted by Rhaegar. Ned, however, arrived at the Tower too late, with both Rhaegar and Lyanna dead already, but he supposedly made an "unspecified promise" there as Lyanna died. Many speculate that this promise was to guard Lyanna and Rhaegar's son, which many believe is Jon Snow.
That flashback scene, therefore, which is speculated to be included in Season 6, is apparently about Jon Snow's birth. According to the report, why would the show bother include his birth if he is in fact already dead, which brings us again to the possibility (and the hope) that Jon Snow's death isn't real despite Harington and showrunners' confirmation that he actually is.
Like Jon Snow, we know nothing for sure right now, so it's best to stay tune for more updates about the show's next season. "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is set to return in April next year.
