'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers & Cast Update: Will Katherine Heigl Return To the Show?

The season finale of the popular medical drama, "Grey's Anatomy," aired last month and it left fans with heartbreak and burning questions.

One of the biggest questions fans are asking now is how Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will cope after the death of her husband, Dr. Derek Sheperd (Patrick Dempsey). Dempsey's character died in Season 11 in the episode titled "How To Save A Life," where he was killed after being hit by a truck. The episode then moved forward showing Meredith to seemingly have recovered from the tragedy.

Earlier spoilers for the show's Season 12 claim that Meredith may battle Alzheimer's symptoms in the new season. According to Christian Today, after having Alzheimer's, Meredith may also get killed in Season 12.

There was also a speculation about Katherine Heigl returning to the show to reprise her role as Izzie Stevens. However, according to Catermatt, the actress has already dismissed this rumor. According to the report, the show creator doesn't seem to have any plans of letting the character return to the show. In her recent interview, Heigl also expressed her disappointment on the departure of Dempsey from the series.

KDrama Stars also reported that Shonda Rhimes, the creator of the show, has finally found a replacement for Patrick Dempsey. According to the reports, Martin Henderson will be joining the medical drama and is probably the next love interest of Meredith in the show.

Meanwhile, another power couple's relationship seem to be also on the rocks in the finale of Season 11. Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) might struggle in their relationship after their first child died after being delivered due to a severe congenital condition. According to Drew's recent interview, the couple hasn't really broken up yet, but fans will have to find out in Season 12 if they fall apart.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is expected to be released in ABC in the coming days.
