Marvel Cinema Update: Wasp to take center stage

The Wasp, one of the founding member of the Avengers, will appear in the film "Ant-Man."

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President, said during the "Ant-Man" press event. He said: "We have plans for her in the future, and we see that not-so-subtly in this film [Ant-Man]," according to a report from Comicbook.

The report from Cinemablend added that the character of Janet Van Dyne, who was The Wasp alongside Hank Pym's original Ant-Man, will be seen in the movie. Also, something will happen to her, and this would be the reason why Pym wants to keep their daughter, Hope Van Dyne, away from superheroes.

The article added that Evangeline Lily will be picking the mantle of The Wasp while Paul Rudd's Scott Lang will be with Ant-Man. The Wasp-Lily connection has been hinted at pretty hard so far and the idea that we will see The Wasp going forward certainly implies that somebody will be taking over the role, and the original character's daughter certainly makes the most sense.

Also, if The Wasp will appear on "Ant-Man," she may probably appear in "Captain America: Civil War." However, it is still uncertain if she'll return to the later in Phase 3 or "Avengers: Infinity War."

Screenrant added that flashback sequences will tell the story of original "Ant-Man" Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and why he resents S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers, and much of that has to do with what happens to the original Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) in the past. The vast majority of the film however, is set in the present day and focuses on the mentor-mentee relationship between Pym and his new protege Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who becomes the next "Ant-Man".

"It factors in, in a number of spoiler-ish ways, but we will see Janet Van Dyne in action in this film. And part of sort of what happened to her. And then we will understand why that is the reason that he doesn't want his daughter to follow in those footsteps. One of the reasons why he's always so upset about superheroes in general, dismissive of them in general and also a reason why he doesn't want her to put on the suit," Kevin Feige said in the interview of Screenrant.

"Ant-Man" is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on July 17, 2015.
