It seems Prince George is taking after his stylish mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, becoming a fashion icon himself and having the power to cause instant sell-outs for items that he wears. Dubbed as the "Prince George Effect", this phenomenon recently triggered an up-sale for blue Crocband shoes that the young royal wore during a charity polo match with his parents.
Pictures of Prince George wearing the Crocs while playing on the grass with mom Kate Middleton during the charity polo match at England's Beaufort Polo Club on June 14, spread internationally and inspired shoppers to buy the blue shoes. Crocs' UK & Ireland Country Manager Scott Lucas told Hello! Wednesday last week, that they were "happy to see" the young prince wearing the shoes and that navy blue Crocband shoes in size 2 sold out immediately. "The shoes have since become a best-seller, thanks to what we're calling the 'Prince George effect'," said Lucas.
Prince George's crocs has also seen a surge of demand from online retailers, with Amazon UK reporting a massive increase in sales, reported Women's Wear Daily (WWD) on June 23. Daniel Silverfield, head of vendor management for footwear and accessories at Amazon.co.uk., told WWD that sales of the Crocband shoes rose to "1,500 percent" since photos of the young royal wearing the shoes were released. Silverfield also described the toddler as a fashion icon, saying, "Once again, Prince George proves there's no age limit on being a fashion icon."
This is not the first time that the "Prince George Effect" caused an influx of demand for the young prince's wardrobe. From Rachel Riley rompers to Cath Kidston tank tops, sales spiked up after Prince George was seen wearing these designs. The Olivier Baby and Kids blue cashmere cardigan that Prince George wore at the Beaufort Polo Club has also sold out. Even the Aden & Anais swaddling blankets that Prince William and Princess Kate used to wrap baby George in when he was born, sold out three days after the young prince's birth.
