Michael Douglas previously made entertainment headlines after the 70-year-old "Ant-Man" actor made a statement that almost wrecked his relationship with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. In an interview in 2013, the veteran actor claimed that his tongue cancer could be cured by giving oral sex to women. The apparent statement was later corrected by the actor in a recent interview.
In the revealing tell-all interview with Daily Mail, Michael Douglas opened up on how he regretted saying something sensitive that could have hurt his wife and her family. The "Behind the Candelabra" star also confessed about his personal life, how he dealt with his son, Cameron, and how he battled tongue cancer.
Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who are now celebrating their 15th year of being together, has surpassed the greatest trial of their life when they reportedly separated for a while in August 2013. They reconciled after months of separation, according to Entertainment Online.
"It was one of those things...and I so regretted any embarrassment that it caused Catherine," the "Basic Instinct" star confessed. "We had a little bump in the road. The problem in this business is that everything is so public."
Michael Douglas was previously dragged in a report about his comment on how he developed throat cancer and how he allegedly claimed that his cancer could be cured through oral sex. After that, the couple briefly separated but claimed that the report has nothing to do with their breakup and that it was his cancer treatment that caused a strain in their relationship, People reports.
The actor corrected his statements, "I was trying to make a public service comment. It was one of those things..."
Douglas reconciled with his wife Zeta-Jones in 2014. "I love Catherine as much, more than I ever have," he says. "And hopefully the feeling's mutual." The actor claims it's their children that keep them intact. The two share two children, Dylan, 14, and Carys, 12.
In the recent interview with Daily Mail, Douglas also talked about his son with Diandra Luker, Cameron, 36, who is currently in jail for methamphetamine and cocaine dealing charges. The actor expressed high hopes that his son's suffering will soon come to an end after he was found guilty in 2010.
Meanwhile, the actor who is now cured from tongue cancer also shared how he went through the challenging episodes of treatment with the deadly disease. He was diagnosed with stage 4 of tongue cancer in 2010, had chemotherapy and radiation sessions before he was declared cancer-free in January 2011.
