Technological giant Apple has joined the global celebration of "Pride Revolution" earlier this week. This is after the company's App Store has added a new featured section intended for the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT), a Yahoo report said on Monday.
The LGBT section that was featured in Apple's App Store went live on Thursday, June 25, and it showcased various contents such as movies, songs, applications and TV shows fitted for the LGBT community. This move is reportedly Apple's way of showing solidarity after a landmark decision issued by the U.S. Supreme Court recognized the LGBT's constitutional right to same-sex marriage, according to Yahoo.
"Every June, we commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots - a history-making moment in which gay men and women fought back after decades of relentless discrimination. It heralded the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, launching the struggle for public visibility, cultural acceptance, and legal equality that the LGBT community has continued battling for ever since. To celebrate these efforts, we've gathered a selection of movies, music, TV shows, apps, and more - all reflecting the broad and diverse spectrum of LGBT pride," a description of the LGBT featured section reads.
Digital Trends cited some of the movies and shows that were highlighted in the LGBT featured section, which include "Milk ad Hedwig," "the Angry Inch," and "Orange is the New Black." Songs of famous artists such as Sam Smith, Adam Lambert, Frank Ocean and Neon Trees were featured too.
It could be recalled that Apple's CEO Tim Cook had also admitted publicly that he was gay. Cook's coming out apparently signalled a paradigm shift to Apple's advocacy: equal rights for all.
Since then the company has been vocal on LGBT issues and has become a main critic to anti-LGBT legislation across America. A Techtimes report also revealed that the company's employees actually participated in the 2014 Pride Parade in San Francisco.
