James Gunn just loves to tease his fans. The director previously revealed that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" (GOTG2) will be a more emotional and intimate film, having fewer characters in play for the sequel compared to the first installment of the film. Gunn refused to confirm if "Magus" will make an appearance, instead telling fans to "wait and see."
Collider caught up with James Gunn during the 41st Annual Saturn Awards held in Burbank, California on Thursday, June 25, where the director shared a few tidbits about the Marvel sequel. Gunn reveals that the second movie focuses on "learning a lot about fathers" and promises GOTG2 to be "bigger yet smaller because it's more emotional and takes a more intense focus on some characters." When asked if "Magus" will make an appearance in the movie, the director cheekily smiled and said, "You'll have to wait and see the movie to see who's introduced."
According to Comic Book Movie, Magus aka Adam Warlock's evil alter-ego, has been rumored to play a big role in the "Avengers: Infinity War" movie, hence an appearance in "Guardians 2" seems possible. Movie fans believe that Magus will make his debut appearance in the movie, after Gunn insisted that only one major new character will be added to the sequel.
Meanwhile, Chris Pratt who played Peter Quill in the first installment of the series, admitted that James Gunn's idea for the sequel actually brought tears to the actor's eyes, reports Cinema Blend. The two have been keeping in touch all throughout the screenwriting process, where Pratt already listened to a few of the songs to be featured in the movie's "Awesome Mix Vol. 2." The actor wasn't able to divulge any other details, saying, "I'm not allowed to tell anybody anything, nor would I want to, because it would be a little bit like telling a kid what's under the tree before Christmas morning. I would encourage people not to poke holes in the paper and peek. Allow yourself the Christmas morning. Don't ruin it."
James Gunn already completed the first draft of the Marvel sequel three weeks ago. "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is expected to start production in the first half of next year and is slated to hit the big screens on May 5, 2017.
