After being listed for less than five months, Joan Rivers' luxurious Upper East triplex was sold for $28 million. According to New York Curbed, although the deal hasn't gone into contract yet, the move-out of some of the late actress' personal belongings has already wrapped up.
Considered to be one of New York's most legendary apartments, the ornament penthouse that was originally built in 1903 has a new owner for the first time in 25 years. The listing landed on the market in February after the untimely death of Rivers from a routine medical procedure.
The listing details reveal that the estate located just off Fifth Avenue has meticulously restored architectural details and entertaining rooms. The entrance of the residence is an exclusive elevator landing which opens to the grandest room in the property. The ballroom, which has a large space perfect for entertaining a large number of guests, adjoins the music room with 23-foot-high ceilings. The room is decorated with gilded antique, paneling columns and two fireplaces.
The dining area, which is adjacent to the music room, has three French doors that open to a terrace where al fresco dining can be enjoyed. There's also a wood-paneled library with its own fireplace and views of the Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
The second floor has a mezzanine that overlooks the music room and ballroom and leads to the master suite, which has French doors and also beautiful views of Central Park. The floor also serves as the entrance to the staff quarters, which leads to a separate staircase going to the kitchen.
The interior space is approximately 5,100 square feet and the outdoor space is 430 square feet. The triplex has a total of 11 rooms, two kitchens, four and half bathrooms and five fireplaces.
According to Hollywood Life, Rivers' finances were completely in order before her unexpected death in September last year. When she passed away at the age of 81, she had an estimated net worth of $150 million, and this includes this $35 million New York apartment which she left for her only child, Melissa Rivers.
