'Call of Duty Black Ops 3' Update: Dark Horse Comics To Release Prequel Comic This Fall

Dark Horse Comics is poised to release this fall a comic book adaptation of the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" video game. The "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" comic series is a prequel story, which will be released two days before the video game hits retail stores on November 4, IGN reported on Wednesday.

IGN says that the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" prequel comics series will be written by Larry Hama, a popular writer who worked on the "G.I. Joe" comics, and Marcelo Ferreira, a renowned artist who worked on "Transformers." Dark Horse reportedly described the planned prequel comic series of the video game as "highly anticipated."

"A prequel to the highly anticipated game, the Call of Duty: Black Ops III comic book series follows an elite group of soldiers as they wage a secret war across a futuristic war-torn world transformed by technology. In the bullet-ridden first issue, the team infiltrates Tashkent, Uzbekistan to take down a double agent, but as they close in, they uncover something much more sinister at hand," wrote Dark Horse in its press release.

Dark Horse explains that the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" prequel comic series is intended to provide more details that are not found in the "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" video game. This idea was also shared by writer Larry Hama, who said, "A lot of the appeal of Call of Duty is in how it puts you directly in the action. That's pretty difficult to replicate in a graphic story format, so the aim in a comic adaptation is to provide more of what you don't get a lot of in the game."

"We're talking character development and back-story, and a more involved personal interaction between the characters. Also, it's possible to really flesh out the story line, create running sub-plots, and explain technical details that aren't that easy to convey in the game environment," Hama added, as reported by Techtimes.

Meanwhile, avid fans of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" can actually pick up an exclusive mini-comic of the video game for free. In order to get the exclusive mini-comic, fans should visit either the Dark Horse Comics booth or the Activision installation during next week's San Diego Comic-Con.
