'Back To The Future' director and co-writer Robert Zemeckis ruled out the remake of his blockbuster hit, IGN said. According to the director, he would not blemish the greatness of the 1980s movie. He even compared the movie to the multi awarded film Citizen Kane. His concern was the actor who will play the lead role since Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd is a bit old enough to reprise their roles. He also called the idea an insane one and he is not going to tarnish the films greatness, not even in his dreams.
Zemeckis' idea was shadowed by the film's co-writer Bob Gale and said that he and Zemeckis will not sign off if ever there would be a remake as long they both live. Zemeckis also said that he hopes that his estate will find a way to block this ridiculous move even if he leaves this planet. Zemeckis said during an interview that even if both he and Bob are dead, still the remake will not happen.
The multi-awarded director acknowledges the fact that the remake is sure to be an instant hit and it would definitely make sense, financially speaking. But Zemeckis and Gale could not fathom that the remake will surely veer away from the original story in the way that the film's fan would appreciate.
Telegraph also made an article on the issue and discussed about the Hollywood jargon "pre-sold title". It is the same as what happened with Spielberg's 1993 film Jurassic Park. The remake was a huge hit but it catered to today's audience and the remake was very far from the then hit. This is what the duo feared, the pre-sold title. He and Gale just can't imagine the fact that the film will be screwed if it will be remade.
On the other hand, Zemeckis confirmed the remake of his 1984 Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner action-adventure film, Romancing the Stone. He was indeed the director of the film but said that he had no power over it.
