The "Plants vs. Zombies" franchise will reportedly have a comic book series. Dark Horse Comics has announced this week that it will be releasing a "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" comic, which is a prequel to the upcoming "Garden Warfare 2" video game, an IGN report stated on Thursday.
The plan to have a comic series for the video game franchise was revealed by renowned writer Paul Tobin and artist Jacob Chabot. The reported "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" comic series will be unveiled on October 28 this year. However, to have an effective promotion of the sequel, Dark Horse Comics is planning to showcase the series during the San Diego Comic-Con event on July 9 to 12, according to IGN.
"We're excited to partner with Dark Horse Comics to tell the origin story of how Dr. Zomboss came to power in Suburbia. This pivotal moment in 'Plants vs. Zombies' history is entertaining and hilarious and will draw readers into this crazy world with these over-the-top characters like never before. I can't wait for fans to get their hands on this new series," said Jeremy Vanhoozer, senior creative director of PopCap Games, in a statement via Game Temple website.
The IGN report revealed that in the "Garden Warfare 2" video game, plants are on offensive mode as they attempt to reclaim their homes after Dr. Zomboss has attacked the Suburbia in the first version of "Garden Warfare." The planned comic series will apparently explain how Dr. Zomboos took control of the Suburbia.
Meanwhile, related news from International Business Times has described "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" a "game-changer" because it reportedly has a combination of good strategy elements of the first original game as a third-person shooter in a 3D environment. The "Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare" video game uses a class-based system for gameplay, which is apparently very similar to the "Battlefield" franchise, another series from EA.
Once published, the "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" will arrive in various comic stores, while the "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2" will be available in spring 2016 in Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC gaming platforms.
