Royal Family News: Princess Charlotte Is Christened And Here Are the Details

The nine-week-old Princess of Cambridge was finally christened and the memorable event took place at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, a village on the eastern coast of England, where the family also spends Christmas together, New York Post reports.

For the first time, the young royal family was out in public with all four members present: William, the Duke of Cambridge, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, and the celebrant, Princess Charlotte.

The ceremony itself was private and intimate; however, fans were invited and gathered outside of the church to have a glimpse of the lovely family as they walk on their way to the venue. Kate was seen pushing Charlotte in a stroller and beside her was her husband and their 2-year-old son who was spotted to be sporting an identical outfit to what William wore to prince Harry's christening 30 years ago.

Present during the private affair were Queen Elizabeth, her husband Philip, grandfather to the baby Prince Charles, and Kate's parents.

Baby Charlotte, who is fourth in line to the throne, was clothed in the same gown that his older brother used which is a replica of the lace and satin dress made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter in 1841 and which was used for every royal child until 2008.

The entire ceremony was mostly traditions with holy water from the River Jordan used to sprinkle Charlotte during the rites.

However, there was a break in tradition when the baby's set of godparents were announced hours before the ceremony. There was no member of the ruling family included in the list which was composed of Kate and William's closest friends.

It was also undeniable that the ceremony in many ways honored Charlotte's late grandmother, Princess Diana, usmagazine.com reports.

One of Charlotte's middle names is Diana, and apart from that, the location itself is a sprinkling tribute to the Princess since it's where the less-than-2-month-old Diana was christened in 1961.

Diana's niece, Laura Fellowes, from older sister Cynthia Jane Fellowes, was also chosen to be one of Princess Charlotte's official grandparents.

Lastly, famed photographer Mario Testino - one of Diana's favorites - was chosen to take the official christening portraits.
