Formula E, The Future Of Motorsports, According to FIA

Motorsports racing is known to burn two things heavily - gasoline and rubber. But how can motorsports racing save the world? Introducing Formula E. According to CNet, the fast emerging Formula E uses cars that looks exactly what Formula 1 uses, but instead of using the usual powerful V-8 engine, the Formula E cars use electric motors.

Aside from making profit, Formula E was put together for two things. One, the scene will act as a testing ground for new electric motor technologies which can lead into mass producing electronic cars. Second, arguably the most important goal of the organization is to inspire the people to see electric cars not as a novelty but an option for daily use.

British billionaire and Formula E enthusiast, Richard Brunson, see the sport as a catalyst to create a more energy-efficient electric technology. The organization can potentially lead to a cleaner world that is less dependent to fossil fuels. The Virgin Group founder also said that Formula E makes green energy sexy and cited that 10 or 20 years ago, electrically powered vehicles are just for movies. But today, more advanced and sleek looking electric cars are slowly becoming the future.

Formula E cars, unlike Formula 1, are standardized, meaning the teams, including design, engines, wheels and tires are all the same, no one is ahead. The car itself is a Spark-Renault SRT-01E, made from carbon-fibre aluminum Kevlar. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2 seconds and can top at 140mph.

Formula E, for those who have a little information about the emerging motor sports, according to FIA, just like Formula 1, is an FIA regulated sport. It is the organization's newest baby to hit the race track. Formula E was launched formally in Beijing in September 2014. FIA's top man and former Ferrari boss Jean Todt said that the spectacular series will offer both entertainment and a new opportunity to share FIA's values for clean energy, mobility, and sustainability. With these statement, FIA is surely looking to the future of the sport.
